Rabbo, Beilin Discuss Way Forward for Israel, Palestinians

Two long-time architects of Middle East peace initiatives gave candid remarks during a policy forum at the International Peace Institute on September 16th, just a week before President Mahmoud Abbas would formerly request UN membership for Palestine.

The two were Yasser Abed Rabbo, Secretary-General of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and co-architect of the 2003 Geneva Initiative, and Yossi Beilin, former Israeli Minister and Knesset Member and co-architect of the 2003 Geneva Initiative. They discussed possibilities for a new accord between Israel and the Palestinians, the role of the international community, and the current political landscape.

The event was moderated by IPI President Terje Rød-Larsen. It was co-hosted by Switzerland, whose Ambassador to the UN, Paul Seger, gave remarks.
