Toward Lasting Peace in Chad

On October 8th, the International Peace Institute convened a "Multistakeholder Consultation on Chad," together with the United States Institute of Peace and Caring for Kaela, a Chadian advocacy organization.

With fifty participants drawn from diverse backgrounds--including African ambassadors, representatives of the African Union, the European Union, and the United Nations Secretariat, as well as members of the Chadian diaspora--this event highlighted the importance of a regional approach, and examined the complex dynamics among the five different UN peace operations in the region, as well as the serious resource constraints facing UN peace operations worldwide.

Arbour: What the Rule of Law Means
“In my understanding of the rule of law, fundamentally, what the rule of law means is that it embraces the principle of equality before the law,” Louise Arbour, president of the International Crisis Group (ICG), told an IPI audience on May 10, 2012. Ms. Arbour outlined that this means that no one is above the law and everyone has both equal protection and equal benefit of the law.
