Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf, the man behind the so-called “Ground Zero Mosque,” has written a new book entitled, Moving the Mountain: Beyond Ground Zero to a New Vision of Islam in America, that draws on his personal experiences and speaking up on behalf of disenfranchised Muslims in the United States who are spiritual, moderate, and patriotic.

Ban Ki-moon was appointed to a second five-year term as Secretary-General of the United Nations in his typical style: quietly. In a time of divisive power plays in the Security Council, all 15 members supported him and, a week later, the General Assembly gave its unanimous consent. No other candidate had been put forward and no fuss was raised among Member States.

"The United Nations system is both a humanitarian aid system and political system, and it's seen as very much within a Western orbit, so a great deal of the reluctance of Al-Shabaab to allow some of these aid agencies to function has to do with their perception, whether right or wrong, that these aid agencies also represent a political agenda," says John Hirsch, IPI Senior Adviser, in this Al Jazeera report.
