Swanee Hunt on the Risk of Being “Even-Handed” in Bosnia

“Don’t be afraid to say there is an aggressor here,” Swanee Hunt, Chair of the Institute for Inclusive Security, told an IPI audience while discussing her new book, Worlds Apart: Bosnian Lessons for Global Security. Ms. Hunt served as the US Ambassador to Austria between 1993-97 and hosted negotiations and meetings focused on stabilizing the neighboring Balkan states.

IPI NY Seminar: Multilateral Strategies for Conflict Prevention

Preventing the conflict that is devastating parts of the world and amounting to roughly US$8 billion per year in UN peacekeeping costs was the subject of a two-day IPI seminar, “Conflict Prevention: Toward More Effective Multilateral Strategies,” where high-level diplomats discussed conflict prevention measures and analyzed what challenges exist in tapping into their full potential.

Knut Vollebaek, the High Commissioner on National Minorities of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), made this comment to an IPI audience on April 14th that addressed the subject "Promoting Integration and Preventing Conflict in Multiethnic Societies: Challenges and Opportunities."
