New York Seminar

IPI ( International Peace Academy ) introduced its annual New York Seminar in 1996, on the request of many senior representatives of international institutions, including high-level UN officials and Permanent Representatives to the United Nations. Prior to this, there was no such seminar conducted in the New York area to meet the needs of the UN community. The annual seminar brings together highly experience, senior-level speakers and discussants, and members of the New York diplomatic community.

2006 New York Seminar The Middle East on the Global Agenda – Themes, Trends and Linkages

This seminar was held May 1-4 at the Thayer Hotel, West Point. The objective of the 2006 Seminar was to deepen and broaden the knowledge and expertise of participants on critical policy issues relating to the Middle East. This objective was tackled in a threefold approach.

  • First, the seminar was dedicated to discussion of broader trends and issues confronting the region and placing it on the international community’s agenda.
  • Second, the specific issues were explored in depth and in their entire complexity.
  • Third, while the focus remained on an international understanding and grappling with the issues at hand, all discussions aimed to foster a deeper understanding for how the region and affected people(s) themselves confront the relevant conflicts and issues.
