Vienna Seminar

Held annually since 1970, the Vienna Seminar is the flagship of IPA’s Professional Development program, and is widely recognized as the pre-eminent international seminar in the field of peacemaking and peacekeeping. Many alumni of the Vienna Seminar now hold leadership positions in the fields of international diplomacy and peacekeeping worldwide.

The objectives of the Vienna Seminar are:

  • To deepen and broaden the knowledge and expertise of participants on critical policy issues relating to peacemaking and peacekeeping;
  • To provide a forum where participants can compare different regional and national experiences, share their insights, and develop their professional relationships; and
  • To create a well-informed, worldwide leadership cadre of policymakers and practitioners who have a broad, sophisticated understanding of peacemaking and peacekeeping, and are well equipped both to make policy and to lead operations in the field.
