Security & Development in Sierra Leone

This project analyzed the international involvement in Sierra Leone from a combined security-development perspective. The project culminated in a workshop held in New York City on 10-11 June 2002. Participants included senior personnel from the UN Mission in Sierra Leone, the UN Secretariat, UNDP, and various other United Nations agencies, as well as Sierra Leonean government representatives, key Sierra Leonean civil society actors, prominent academics, and bilateral donors. The project report by Lotta Hagman analyzes peace-building efforts in Sierra Leone and emphasizes the importance of a holistic view that more deliberately integrates strategies in regional security, reintegration of former combatants, security sector reform, governance, and transitional justice. The project was generously funded by the Canadian International Development Agency.
