Conferences - October 10, 2013
On October 10-11, 2013, IPI hosted a fourth seminar on the role of Francophone countries in peacekeeping in New York to conclude a cycle of conferences co-organized by the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie (OIF), the French Ministry of Defense’s Délégation aux Affaires stratégiques (DAS), the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Direction de la Coopération de Sécurité et de Défense (DCSD) and the Geneva Centre for Security Policy (GCSP).

A ministerial-level dinner on “Strengthening the Partnership: A Fresh Dialogue on UN Peacekeeping,” held on September 25th provided a chance for key stakeholders in the UN peacekeeping system to engage on a range of issues to help inform the way towards a strengthened peacekeeping partnership for the future.

“As members of the international community, we should not come with preconceived and prefixed concepts of democracy to impose,” said Margaret Vogt, Mediator-in-Residence at the UN Department of Political Affairs. “We should make sure that we work with organic structures and institutions and reinforce those.”

On June 7th, IPI launched a new publication entitled “The Elephant in the Room: How Can Peace Operations Deal with Organized Crime?” a policy-oriented report designed to reduce the impact of crime where UN peace operations are trying to make, keep, or build peace.
