Peace, Security, and Governance in the Great Lakes Region

The primary objective of the seminar was to assess the prospects for durable peace and security and to identify the challenges to democratization in the Great Lakes region. Ultimately, prospects for the consolidation of peace in the region will depend on an empowered civil society, strongly institutionalized and efficient subregional organizations, and strategic intervention by the international community.
