“We have lost the ability to use diplomacy effectively, and we still have to sort out how we place foreign policy in the right perspective, in the context of our domestic interests and agenda, but also in the context of what we think about our military power and military might, and how we use it globally,” Vali Nasr, author of the new book The Dispensable Nation: American Foreign Policy in Retreat, asserted before an IPI audience on April 24th, 2013.
Meeting Notes - December 19, 2012
This report stems from a roundtable meeting held at IPI Vienna in May and featured representatives from the governments of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Montenegro, and Serbia, who in 2011 produced a regional accord to address the lingering problem of displacement nearly 20 years after the Balkan wars precipitated a crisis of refugees and IDPs.

“Don’t be afraid to say there is an aggressor here,” Swanee Hunt, Chair of the Institute for Inclusive Security, told an IPI audience while discussing her new book, Worlds Apart: Bosnian Lessons for Global Security. Ms. Hunt served as the US Ambassador to Austria between 1993-97 and hosted negotiations and meetings focused on stabilizing the neighboring Balkan states.
