The Being a Peacekeeper Series (BAPK) is a joint initiative of the International Peace Institute and the Pearson Centre. The series of high-level regional roundtables brings together existing, emerging, and potential troop- and police-contributing countries with senior UN officials in an informal setting to allow for an open exchange of experiences, successes, concerns, and opportunities.

For nearly forty years, IPI has been at the forefront of making peacekeeping more reliable and effective. From the training of UN peacekeeping troops in the 1970s, to the current work on multidimensional peace operations, IPI aims to deepen the understanding of peacekeeping missions around the world and to develop policy ideas for their success.

Providing for Peacekeeping is an independent research project established to broaden the understanding of the factors and motivations that encourage or discourage states from contributing to UN peacekeeping operations. Its aim is to generate and disseminate current information and analysis to support efforts to “broaden the base” of troop- and police-contributing countries, improve the quality of troop and police contributions, and fill key capability gaps.
This project is done in partnership with The Elliott School at George Washington University and Griffith University.

This program provides policy support to partners in their efforts to improve interventions in post-conflict countries. It focuses specifically on providing direct support to the UN Peacebuilding Commission and Peacebuilding Support Office by facilitating informal dialogue among member states and UN officials on peacebuilding issues, and by supporting ongoing policy development within the UN system.
