Australian Senator Penny Wong Discusses the Elements of an Effective Global Climate Change Agreement
On March 27th, IPI hosted Senator Penny Wong, Minister for Climate Change and Water of Australia, who spoke on the key components needed for an effective global climate change agreement, including cap-and-trade emissions schemes and cooperation with developing countries in reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation.

On November 13th-14th, the International Peace Institute (IPI) together with the Center for Global Counterterrorism Cooperation (CGCTC) convened a roundtable of counterterrorism practitioners and experts to discuss “Implementing the United Nations Global Counterterrorism Strategy in South Asia.”
Conferences - June 25, 2008
On June 25th, IPI convened a meeting of its Forum on World Affairs for a discussion on the political and security situation in Afghanistan. The high-level roundtable meeting attracted a select group of UN ambassadors and senior officials from the UN Secretariat, among others, who discussed the question "What are the strategies to address the Afghanistan's political and security challenges?"

Counterterrorism Capacity Building in Asia and Africa
The International Peace Institute, together with the Permanent Mission of Denmark to the United Nations, organized an expert-level policy forum on counterterrorism capacity-building in Asia and Africa. Based on two reports examining the role of bi- and multi-lateral assistance to counterterrorism efforts in developing countries, the standing-room-only event was designed to inform the forthcoming September 2008 Review of the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy.
