On June 23, 2014, the International Peace Institute, together with the government of Luxembourg, hosted a ministerial working dinner in Luxembourg on the recent developments in the Palestinian-Israeli peace process; the humanitarian and political crisis in Iraq and Syria; and the current situation in Egypt.
The dinner, which was held under the Chatham House rule of non-attribution, was co-chaired by Jean Asselborn, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Luxembourg; Dr. Sultan al Jaber, Minister of State of the United Arab Emirates; and IPI President Terje Rød-Larsen.
Among those also in attendance were the foreign ministers of Bulgaria, Finland, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Lebanon, Libya, Malta, the Netherlands, Norway, Slovakia, Sweden, and the United Kingdom.
Yasser Abed Rabbo, Secretary-General of the PLO’s Executive Committee, and Peter Maurer, President of the International Committee of the Red Cross, also attended.

When a 13-year-old Sierra Leonean girl was raped by the chief of her tribe, her parents forced her to marry him so as to avoid shame and stigma for the family. This would have been the accepted solution, had it not been for Sierra Leone’s new law that prohibits marriage for people under the age of 18. Eventually, the perpetrator was convicted and the marriage was annulled.
