IPI Launches Global Security Industry Standards Study

In order to catalyze thinking on the practical and policy issues involved in regulating the global security industry, IPI has produced, Beyond Market Forces, a feasibility study geared not toward developing a specific model for an industry standards framework, but rather toward fostering reflection within all relevant stakeholder groups––governments, industry, and civil society.

Special Representative of the Secretary-General Atul Khare Discusses UN Efforts in Timor-Leste

On August 20, 2008, Special Representative of the Secretary-General (SRSG) for Timor-Leste and Head of the United Nations Integrated Mission in Timor-Leste Mr. Atul Khare addressed a select group of diplomats and other members of the United Nations and NGO communities in IPI’s Trygve Lie Center. In providing an informative account of UN statebuilding support efforts in Timor-Leste, he discussed the challenges associated with the raw scars of conflict in a country trying to rebuild its institutions and identity.
