This report presents some of the views and themes discussed at the IPA [now IPI] Civil Society Dialogue on “Civil Society Perspectives from the Mano River Union (MRU),” held in New York on June 14, 2002.

The meeting provided a platform for civil society leaders from the three Mano River Union countries (Liberia, Guinea, and Sierra Leone) to share information and analyses with the United Nations community in New York on the consolidation of democracy in West Africa, the role of civil society in peacebuilding, and challenges for improving the effectiveness of civil society actors in the Mano River basin.
