IPI recently hosted a lunchtime panel discussion to launch a new book, The Responsibility to Protect: Ending Mass Atrocity Crimes Once and for All, by Gareth Evans. It was cosponsored by the International Crisis Group and the Global Centre for the Responsibility to Protect.
IPI Senior Vice President and Director of Studies, Dr. Edward Luck, chaired the event, which featured remarks from book author Gareth Evans, president of International Crisis Group, and Mónica Serrano, Executive Director of the Global Centre for the Responsibility to Protect.
The book, published by the Brookings Institution Press, examines how the emerging norm of the Responsibility to Protect (RtoP) represents a significant change from the past, and how, with its acceptance in principle and effective application in practice, the promise of “never again” can be realized worldwide.
