In the past few centuries, the role of the Asia-Pacific was diminished in its global influence. This is about to change. By 2030, the region’s share of the world’s GDP is predicted to be 67%. It is currently home to more than half the global population, and has the fastest growing economies in the world. By all accounts, the 21st century will be the “Asia-Pacific century.”
This ten-minute film examines the challenges the region faces, and served as a backdrop to the third Jakarta International Defense Dialogue (JIDD), a two-day gathering of leaders from nearly 40 countries. While the region has enjoyed unprecedented economic growth and increasing political cooperation and peace, participants in the JIDD were nevertheless tasked with discussing serious threats to security and human development, from territorial disputes and trafficking to urbanization and poverty.
The video was conceived and produced by Francesco Mancini and Andrea Ó Súilleabháin, with narration by Warren Hoge and creative support from the Moon Agency.
