Staff Lotte Vermeij
Lotte Vermeij is a Senior Expert on Sexual Violence in Conflict and UN Peace Operations at NORCAP – Norwegian Refugee Council. From 2017-2020 she worked as a Senior Advisor on UN peace operations to the Norwegian Armed Forces. From 2015 – 2017 she was deployed as a Women Protection Advisor to the UN peacekeeping mission in DR Congo (MONUSCO). Prior to this, she was a Senior Research Fellow and the Head of the Peace Capacities Programme at the Norwegian Institute of International Affairs (NUPI).
Dr. Vermeij has over a decade of experience working on international peace and security issues. She is engaged in the development and delivery of peacekeeping training for the UN and national peacekeeping training centers across the globe. She published widely and her most recent publication focuses on taboos and stigmas facing military women deploying to UN peace operations (IPI, October 2020).
Vermeij holds a PhD degree (2014) in Disaster Studies from Wageningen University, the Netherlands, and an MPhil degree in Peace and Conflict Studies from the University of Oslo, Norway. She has extensive field experience in (post-) conflict zones across the African continent, and her work took place in countries including the Central African Republic, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Liberia, Mali, Mozambique, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, and Uganda.
