Why Sustaining Peace Stories?

Everyday, billions of people engage in peaceful activities that go unrecognized. What are these activities, and how can we cultivate peaceful attitudes, policies, and actions while restoring and sustaining peace? This is the question that has confronted and baffled leaders throughout history.

But in this interconnected world, this question now involves all of us. In an instant, events in one country ripple across the globe. The use of violence to deal with violence has not made our world more secure. Sustaining peace is everyone’s business, and achieving sustainable peace will take commitment from every single person in every country, rich and poor.

The great peace movements teach that peace does not have to mean losing or winning. It does not come instantly with the presence or absence of guns and tanks. Peace is a radical act. It is a process and a goal that builds vibrant, healthy societies. But what does that mean for each person, each society, each country? We are exploring that question.
