Civil Society and the State: Partnership for Peace in the Great Lakes Region

Recognizing many challenges to the region’s stability, a number of key policy recommendations for consideration within the context of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (IC/GLR) emerged out of the meeting discussions.

Important areas covered by these discussions include: improving the effectiveness of civil society in peacebuilding, promoting public dialogue and inclusive notions of citizenship, involving international and regional actors in peacebuilding, and developing a more comprehensive and regional approach to refugees and internally displaced people.
